F-27 The name Friendship was only used in the very early stages, even if it was clearly mentioned in the licence agreement concluded with Fokker on April 26, 1956, that Fairchild Aircraft Division (FAD), as part of the Fairchild Engine and Airplane Corporation, should use this name. |

In 1960 Fairchild had already plans to stretch the F-27 fuselage. For Eastern Airlines they wanted to stretch the plane by 88,6'' (2.35m) They wanted to do that with two sections, viz. in front of and behind the wing. But it remained at design-study stage (F-27E). |
